Frequently asked questions

What should I wear?

Wear something loose and comfortable, that does not restrict your movements. Yoga, pilates and contemporary jazz are done in bare feet. Street dance is done in trainers and flamenco is done in hard soled shoes.

What do I need to bring?

You only need to bring what you intend to wear. We provide all the equipment, such as yoga mats. If you wish to bring your own mat you are welcome, but you are not obliged to. We have changing rooms here, but no showers.

If I am late is it a problem?

Please arrive in good time as late comers will not be admitted.

do I need to book drop in classes?

No, just show up 5-10 mins before hand. Drop in classes are on a first come, first served basis and cannot be booked in advance so if the class is a busy one, please arrive in good time to make sure you can get a place.

is there a discount for coming frequently?

Yes, if you plan to come to our drop in classes regularly you can purchase one of our discounts cards. These cards are valid for 3 months and give up to £1 off each class, they are only for use by the person named on the card. The following cards are available.

  • 10 x £6 classes @ £55
  • 10 x £7 classes @ £65
  • 10 x £9.50 classes @ £85
  • 6 x £11 classes @ £60

If you have a discount card for £7 or £9.50 classes and wish to attend a more expensive class you can simply pay the extra in cash when you come in.

how do I book a course?

Please book in advance. Your place on the course is only secure once we have received payment in full. Courses are booked as entire units whether you are able to attend all the sessions or not. Once the course has started your money cannot be refunded should you be unable to attend. Refunds or credits can be given up to 48 hours before the course starts, however a £5 administration fee will be charged.

By phone: call 020 7249 2425 and pay with Visa, Mastercard, Solo or Meastro.
By post: send a cheque payable to yogahome to:
11 Allen Road, London, N16 8SB
Please write on the back of the cheque the details of the course, your name and a contact number.

is there is a concessionary rate?

No, but we do have discount cards for drop in classes, please see above for details.

I'm pregnant. Should I start doing yoga?

Yes definately. We recommend that you do our pregnancy yoga classes, especially if you are new to yoga. These classes are very safe and are appropriate for any stage of pregnancy. You don't need to wait until 12 weeks before you start yoga if you go to a pregnancy yoga class. Do bear in mind that the first trimester is the most delicate stage of the pregnancy as the placenta is not fully established and the risk of miscarriage is greatest. Although it is extremely unlikely that pregnancy yoga would be the cause of a miscarriage.

I'm pregnant, I've done lots of yoga. Can I go to any class?

No, there are some classes which are not suitable for pregnant women, and some teachers that do not accept pregnant women in their classes. Classes that are unsuitable are ashtanga, because it is a high heat practice, and pilates because during pregnancy your abdominal muscles need to lengthen, rather than draw in. Many iyengar teachers do not accept pregnant women in their classes.

Having said that if you have an established yoga practice and you know your teacher, speak to them about the suitability of continuing in the class. They can advise you about which postures are not appropriate whilst you are pregnant. Do remember that whilst you are pregnant, it is not a good idea to attempt to expand your practice, but you can maintain it.

If I have a medical condition can I still attend yoga?

Please inform your teacher before the class if you have a medical condition or injury or have had a recent operation. You may need to avoid certain aspects of yoga in favour of others.

If you have a medical condition such as ME, MS, AIDS, high blood pressure or heart disease, or have been referred by your doctor to do yoga, you are most welcome to attend a beginners yoga class.

Again please let the teacher know about your condition before the class and bring any relevant letter from your doctor with you. The daytime beginners yoga classes provide an ideal place for you to get more attention from the teacher as they tend to be less busy.

If I miss a session of a course can I take another class in it's place?

Unfortunately not, courses are paid for as entire units whether or not you are able to attend all the sessions or not. The only exception to this is if the teacher has another class in the week and they are happy for you to swap across. This would need to be arranged in advance.

Can I cancel a course once it has started?

Once the course has started your money cannot be refunded should you be unable to attend. Refunds or credits can be given up to 48 hours before the course starts, however a £5 administration fee will be charged.
